DAY OF PLAY!

The Global Cardboard Challenge was a huge success! The 3rd grade G.A.T.E. students did an amazing job designing and creating their own cardboard games. Some of the G.A.T.E. classes even created a presentation of their game to share with the 4th grade G.A.T.E. students. They had to write and memorize their part of the presentation and it turned out awesome! The 4th grade G.A.T.E. students came to our classroom and played our games and we went to their room and played their games in our “Day of Play!” Mrs. Sheets even joined in on the fun and was very impressed by the students’ originality and creativity.

After our “Day of Play,” the students came up with a door design for Red Ribbon Week: “Keeps Your Eyes Off Drugs!” The students created their own eye using black paper and pastels. These turned out really cool!

At the end of the week, the students wrote their own, “Stories with Holes.” “Stories with Holes” is a book full of riddles to encourage students to think outside of the box. Each student read their riddles in front of the class and let us figure out what the hole in the story was. Some of the students’ riddles were so difficult we couldn’t even figure them out and even had to forfeit! This was so much fun!

Global Cardboard Challenge

What a productive week in G.A.T.E.! The students have finished their cardboard games and THEY ARE AWESOME! These students are so creative and have such awesome ideas! It’s also neat to see the “builders” of the groups and watch them construct the cardboard and bring the games to life. Next week, the 4th grade G.A.T.E. students will come to our classroom and play our games and we will go to their classroom and play theirs. This will be a great time to showcase our games!

Global Cardboard Challenge: Under Construction

This week in GATE the students watched Caine’s Arcade and decided to take the GLOBAL CARDBOARD CHALLENGE! The students formed groups and designed their own arcade games on paper. Now, they are making their arcade games come to life using cardboard and a few other materials. They will finish their games next week and start playing the games. I can’t wait to see the final products.

Be sure to watch Caine’s Arcade on YouTube and see where everything started.
