Thank You 4th Graders!

I would like to say thank you to the 4th graders for the beautiful flowers they gave me after the 4th grade musical. They are beautiful and I absolutely love them!

Pics from "Musical Royalty"

The 4th grade musical was a success on Tuesday night. Thank you to all of the parents who brought their children and supported the music program at AES! Thank you to Dianna Adams for videoing the performance and thanks to Kelley Lee for running the sound and helping me clean up the stage afterwards.

Here are a few pictures from that night and a few of the stage. Once again sorry the quality is not great.

Thanks PreK

I would just like to say a big thank you to all of the wonderful PreK teachers and students for making my year fantastic. Everyone was so thoughtful. Mrs. Denney's class made me a music video with the students singing a song to me. It was absolutely adorable. And I have to share a cute picture of what Mrs. Sprouse's class gave me for the end of the year. I am so blessed.

The music notes are the students' fingerprints. It says: "Thanks for helping us find our voices." Isn't that sweet?

Good Behavior Parties & Party for Most Participation in 4th Grade Musical

This is just a quick blog to say "Congrats" to the classes with the best behavior the second semester.

Here are a few pictures from the parties! Sorry the pictures aren't great quality. In these pictures they are holding their music cupcakes from the Albertville Home bakery. How cute are they?

March, April, and May OH MY!!!!

March, April and May are always the most hectic months in music class. I'm sure it's like that for any class. The teacher is always trying to cram everything in at the last second. The schools are trying to squeeze in any and every activity possible. In music, I am always in a mad rush trying to finish covering those few standards I haven't addressed yet or the ones I'd like to add more to. So here's how music in April has been...so far.

3rd grade: The 3rd graders have learned facts about Camille Saint Saens and did many Carnival of the Animal fun activities. Below is pictures of some students following along with a listening map to Carnival of the Animals: Kangaroo. The students were amazed at how music can represent different animals. For example, the music in the Kangaroo portion was very staccato: short hopping sound. The students have also learned facts about Sergei Prokofiev and listen to Peter and the Wolf. The students love to see how music can tell a story. The students have also played a composer game on Saint Saens and Prokofiev. They are very competitive children and they love to make learning competitive. So...I can assure you that every game was a close one.

4th grade: The 4th graders have worked extremely hard on their 4th Grade Musical which is coming up next month. The students have learned about the different music genres and the different kings and queens of music. This week the students started learning the sign language to the last song we will perform at our musical. It is going to be gorgeous! I still get goosebumps every time. I hope each of you can make it to our program! Details below:

March Madness!

March Madness couldn't be a better name for this month and we are only a week in! Even though, this is going to be a short month because of Spring Break, it is going to be jam-packed with lots of things going on in music class.

3rd grade: This week my 3rd graders learned lots of facts about Mozart, listened to his music and did an activity with the 12 Variations of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by Mozart. Next week, my 3rd graders will be learning facts about J. S. Bach, listen to his music and following along to "Musette" with a listening map. The week before Spring Break, my 3rd grade classes will be playing a game "Mozart vs. J. S. Bach." These game are always fun, because the students get to see how much they have learned.
Ask your kids to tell you about one of these composers and see if they can teach you something. :)

4th grade: My 4th graders are working on the music for their 4th grade musical. So far, the students have discussed these artists and genres: Elvis Presley: King of Rock & Roll, Bob Dylan: King of Folk, Patsy Cline: Queen of Country, Bob Marley: King of Reggae. Before March is over, the students will also know Aretha Franklin: Queen of Soul and Mary J. Blige: Queen of R&B. The students are also learning songs by these artists for their program. It's a lot of work, but we know it will pay off.

Until next time...

Music in February

This month in music, because of missed days due to snow and other factors, my 3rd graders are still doing music stations, which they love. It is great to see how every time the students come to music I can see them consistently getting better with each station.

The 4th graders started learning about "Music Royalty" and the different kings and queens of the different music genres. This week, the 4th graders learned facts about Elvis Presley: The King of Rock & Roll and Bob Dylan: The King of Folk. The students are working on their 4th grade performance coming up in May where they will be singing a song from some of the different genres by the kings and queens of music.

More to come later.....

Sweets and Songs: Hard Work Pays Off!

I'm in awe of the amazing job the 3rd and 4th graders did at Sweets and Songs. They sang their hearts out! It was phenomenal! This is the perfect example of how hard work really does pay off. I'm so proud of them. I hope they are proud of themselves and feel accomplished!

We had a contest to see which class had the most students come to Sweets and Songs. The winning classes will receive an extra music class.

3rd grade winning class: Mrs. Davis
4th grade winning class: Mrs. Gibson

I would also like to give a special shout-out to all of my soloists. They all did a fabulous job!
Kaitlynn Cochran, Charlie Hallcox, Canaan Jones, and Ella Kate Jones! What talent these students have!
